FAQ

Q1. How do I get a car from jobCarz?

Answer

You must live in the North East of England, be 21 years of age or over and have held a full UK driving licence for over a year. You also must be leaving benefits and returning to work.

Q2. How are people allocated cars?

Answer

People who use jobCarz are either referred through local Employment Support agencies, for example, jobCentre plus, or self-refer after hearing the jobCarz adverts on Sun-FM, reading jobCarz leaflets, word of mouth recommendations or visiting the jobCarz website. Once the jobCarz office is contacted and can confirm that is a car available, the criteria is very plain to see and must be met completely prior to interview.

Driving licenses clear of excessive points are preferred although each case is taken on its merits, but our insurers have the final word on any application.

Q3. What happens at the interview?

Answer

This is an informal interview at which the jobCarz Co-ordinator will tell you more about the jobCarz scheme. You will be told to bring your driving licence (both parts) and two recent utility bills or letters from council etc; these are as a proof of residence. There will be some forms for you to complete and a contract to sign. You will receive your car at the end of the interview.

Q4. How do we ensure that the vehicles are used correctly?

Answer

Each car in the fleet is fitted with a tracking device. The device sends real-time information to the jobCarz office, where the co-ordinator can monitor the usage of the cars. The cars will be monitored on a daily basis to highlight any abuse of the cars. This could include consistent speeding and driving the car to a location outside of the region without informing the co-ordinator.

Q5. Do I pay my own insurance?

Answer

No. This is paid for through the jobCarz scheme.

Q6. So what costs are my responsibilities?

Answer

You will pay the weekly rental charge, and for any fuel that you put into the car. If you receive any fines or incur any other charges whilst driving the car, these will also be payable by you. It is expected that the car is returned in the condition in which it was issued, so any repairs etc that are needed to ensure this, are also your responsibility.

Q7. If I have just started working how can I afford to pay the weekly rental charge?

Answer

jobCarz will tailor the payment schedule to fit in with salary payment cycles. Local Employment support agencies may also assist with initial payments in some circumstances, however, it is imperative that regular payments are made as this is a government funded scheme and all income has to be accounted for.

If expected payments are not made by two weeks exceeding the agreed payment date and no contact has been received by jobCarz the car will be collected and the outstanding amount, plus charges, will be collected through a Debt Collection agency.

Q8. Is there a damage excess amount?

Answer

Yes. This amount is £250. This is a term of the insurance and it is reassuring to know that this is the maximum you would have to pay if you were unlucky enough to be involved in an accident.

Q9. What if the car suffers a breakdown?

Answer

All of our cars are covered by the AA recovery service and you would simply contact them and tell them the registration of the vehicle and where you were.

Q10. What happens if I finish working before the end of the 3 month rental term?

Answer

Unfortunately this would mean that you would have to return the car as soon as possible.

Q11. What if there isn’t a car available when I need one?

Answer

Lift-share may be an option, however, the scheme is exceptionally popular, and although jobCarz has a short-time waiting list to which potential hirers can be added, there is always a chance that some people may end up disappointed. It is our aim to have the jobCarz vehicle out on loan at all times and for as many people to have access to them as possible.
